How Opera Mini Browser Helped in Saving Whopping Rs 2.1 Billion for Indian Users.

According to Opera software, Opera Mini mobile browsers has helped in saving a whopping 2.1 billion rupees for Indian users by consuming less mobile data. With its advanced compression technology, Indian users of the Opera Mini mobile browsers used 75% less mobile data in the first half of the year, according to its report.

Indian Cyber Security Agency (CERT-IN) Issues Advisory To Upgrade Firefox and Chrome To Its Latest Version.

Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-IN) has issued advice to Indian users to upgrade their web browsers to prevent exploitation by cyber criminals which we recently discovered in popular web browsers like Mozilla's Firefox, Thunderbrid, SeaMonkey and Google's Chrome.

In it's latest advisory, CERT-IN said, "Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey which could be exploited by a remote attacker to bypass certain security restrictions, disclose potentially sensitive information, gain escalated privileges, execute arbitrary code and causes denial of service condition on the affected system".

Forget Phone, World May Soon Witness Tablets Powered by FirefoxOS.

It looks like Mozilla has decided to wide with FirefoxOS. After phones, and smart TVs, now, its Tablet time. If the leaks are to be believed, Foxconn has built the first prototype of tablet powered by FirefoxOS. If we look at the specs, the tablet is designed for emerging markets which is very huge. Powered by 1GHz quad core processor, the prototype poses with 10-inch, 1280 x 800 display, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage.

Mozilla Firefox for Android Now Super Charged for Intel based x86 Processor.

Finally, Mozilla has optimized Firefox for Android  for android devices which runs on x86 Intel based Atom processors. So, finally owners of x86 based processors like ASUS Fonepad ME371, Acer Liquid C1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (10.1) can now install Firefox for Android and use Mozilla's intuitive, powerful and personalized experience.

Mozilla claims that standard benchmarks for Javascript performance had scored great results on Intel x86 phone (Motorola RAZR i).

Mozilla Firefox Working on New UI, Code-name Australis.

Being a loyal Mozilla Fan, I am very excited to say that soon we will be seeing new user-interface (UI) of Mozilla Firefox. Under code-name "Australis", the next iteration of Mozilla Firefox UI claims to have "the most beautiful and detail visual design with modern, clean and comfortable."

As per my first impression, the design is designed keeping mobile (tablet) user in mind. It neat and clean with minimal options on the screen. It even comes with animations. I don't have complains regarding that.

LG Joins the Firefox OS Bandwagon with LG Fireweb.


LG became the third mobile manufacturing company, apart from ZTE and Alcatel to launch Firefox OS based smartphones. LG has branded its first Firefox OS as LG Fireweb. It has 4' HVGA TFT touchscreen, powered by 3G, Qualcomm processor with 1 GHz CPU and 2 GB internal memory with inbuilt mirco sd card slot. It has 5 MP camera with LED flash.

ZTE to Propel Firefox OS Smart Phones via eBay.

After launch of Firefox OS Phone across Europe and Latin America, Firefox OS powered phones will soon be available to all, thanks to online shopping site eBay. ZTE announced that they will soon start shipping Firefox phones, initially in US and UK starting 79.99 USD and 59.99 GBP respectively. The devices shipped through eBay are open market devices and they are not optimized for specific networks.

Both Mozilla and ZTE are excited that soon early adopters and developers around the globe will be able to order their first Firefox OS phone through online. The first device to be available online is ZTE Open in Orange.

Mozilla Firefox 23 goes live with New Logo.


Mozilla has pushed version 23.0 of Firefox to its servers and it is ready for the download. The latest version for the Firefox comes with new logo which is no different from previous once, at first glimpse, but you will notice change when observed in detail. Apart from new logo, the latest Firefox added features to safeguard user privacy and security by including content blocker that prevents insecure content from being compromised, option to switch search providers and other minor changes. Mozilla unveils Minion, an Open Source Security Testing Platform.

Today Mozilla foundation has unveiled how it is committed in building web, a better place to surf, safeguarding users privacy and security.

Today, Mozilla has introduced Minion, a security testing platform to be used by developers and security experts with a purpose of minimizing their work. Mozilla claims that Minion takes a different approach to automated web security testing by focusing on correct and actionable results that don't requires security experts to validate, unlike it counter parts which generally generate huge amount of data which is very difficult for analyzing.

Mozilla building UP, Personalisation with Price ?

Mozilla might soon come up with a model which is user custom tailored content and controlled privacy. A proposal called User Personalisation (UP) is being put forward by Mozilla, to provide rich content with personalisation and privacy.

UP is the result of series experiments conducted by Mozilla with help of volunteers and web publishers which was aimed to generate content, based on user's interest with the help of browsing history. But, this type of personalisation comes with price, says Mozilla, it may be come with ads or subscription based model, other innovative models, or it might come in the form of user interaction or engagement.

Opera Next version 16.0.1196.14, future (sneak-peak) version of Opera is now available for download. In Opera Next 16, you can enable/disable experimental features by entering "opera:flags" in URL bar. Summarize web articles with TLDR extension for Google Chrome.



TLDR (Too Long Didn't Read) is an extension developed by Stremor for Google Chrome which can summarize web articles according to users need without leaving the source page. Powered by Liquid Helium, TLDR extension analyzes the content and creates summarized versions in four formats (Summary, Short, Medium and Long) on any web page, including some of the popular web applications like web mail, ZenDesk, SalesForce, SugarCRM, and others. TLDR also has iOS, Android and Windows Phone app.

Mozilla's Firefox OS to start European journey with Deutsche Telekom and Alcatel.


Deutsche Telekom at a press conference in Warsaw, Poland announced that it will start selling Alcatel One Touch Fire powered by Firefox OS starting 12 of July via online and from 15 of July nationwide via its outlets.

Following that, it plans to enter Germany via Congstar, Deutsche Telekom's second brand, then Hungary and Greece by this fall.

Firefox has come up "Amp up your Firefox" and win! contest in which it is giving out Android Tablets and a Macbook Air and Firefox tees. To celebrate its 3 billion downloads since 2004, Firefox has come with contest which started on June 13 and will end on July 2013 where developer needs to create a new add-on or just update the existing add-on.

Mozilla claims that UK based cyber surveillance company is using Firefox for espionage.

World's popular open source and free browser maker Mozilla Foundation has made serious allegations against Gamma International Limited that it is using Firefox trustworthiness for it's commercial gains. They accuses Gamma International of hijacking Firefox brand to camouflage Gamma's cyber espionage products for their commercial needs.

Researchers from citizenlab have found several traces of Gamma's FinFisher spy software disguised as a trustworthy Firefox file in order to fool anti-virus softwares.
